If the idea of Creative Newcastle is new to you, just rest assured that it’s exactly what creative industries in our region needs.
At least according to creative business, and who would know better?
What is Creative Newcastle?
It’s a point of focus, an easy-to-remember hashtag, and a shot of motivation into the creative community to start collaborating, start broadcasting their work, and start getting talent to stay up in Newcastle where it belongs.
Okay, but how?
Well like with any big job, they’re breaking it down into smaller chunks.
One set of chunks comprises of the Creative Newcastle events; part collaboration; part discussion; part inspirational lectures, they bring the creative community together to tackle the issues facing us as a creative city.
The last couple of events boiled the issues facing our industry down into a group of separate issues. The first topic-centred event will focus on talent.
When is it?
The next one is at Castlegate on 17th March between 6-8pm.
It’s perfectly timed to coincide with the Get Digital event, which will take place throughout the day at the same venue. It’s another talent-focused effort aimed at pairing digital businesses with potential apprentices aged between 16-19.
Apprenticeships were highlighted at the last Creative Newcastle event as a key method of getting more young people excited and invested in a creative career in the city.
The day will move from Get Digital to Creative Newcastle, complete with DJs, street food stalls, and local businesses (including us) in the line up.
There’ll be three speakers at the event:
- Newcastle College will be asking why there are no apprentices, and covering why the barriers for businesses to take on apprentices are changing
- University of Sunderland will talk about developing talent and how businesses can work with universities.
- Phil Coverdale from Cravens will talk about all important talent retention
