Learn a lot, try a lot

Learn a lot, try a lot

So, I am nearly at the end of Summer School. It’s been a really good couple of weeks, feel like I have learnt a lot and have been able to try a lot too. Apparently people don’t usually tick four options to participate in on the application form but there is a first for everything.

Week 1:

Copywriting and Art Direction.

Last week I worked doing some art direction and copywriting work. I was also able to do a bit of design stuff too. Having never tried either of the above, I was really interested in what I was doing. I wrote an ad for TV and I also wrote a couple of things for a brochure. As well as these, I was able to go on a studio visit for a voiceover job (also Carpetright).

I think I enjoyed the copywriting so much because it was very clear what I had to do. Re-writing things is in some ways much easier than coming up with the words in the first place. I have big respect for the copywriting team at Different. Pure ideas.

The design work I did for Northumbrian Water was my take on a brief d.fferent have. Their idea is amazing. It totally made me have a lightbulb moment about design and exactly what are some of the things you need to consider when putting your proposal forward.

Week 2:

Design and Content.

This week I have been able to do a bit of design work for Nuby as well as some more copywriting for Nottingham Girls High School – yay! There was a big meeting for the project I did some of my own design work on which went well. The client really liked the ideas put forth by the design/copy team here so that was really good news. The design idea is super cute. I will be keeping an eye out for it in the future.

I was able to do a bit more copy stuff too, coming up with a new direction and tagline for Nottingham Girls High School. This was really cool – I was given a lot of useful direction from Oeil in the copy department and managed to come up with some pretty decent work of my own (if I do say so myself).

Today I have been given the big task from Mell. A social media takeover. Now, I do use social media and I enjoy instagram and facebook. However I am not so hot on my Twitter skillz so today will be interesting. I have been given the rules; post whatever you like, don’t annoy people.

Let us begin.
